St. Patrick's Day
This year we thought we would start a new tradition and actually start celebrating St. Patty’s Day. We have never really done anything before other than the traditional wearing green. The first thing we did was learn the legend of the leprechauns that states if you leave a “treasure” box that is beautifully decorated in a window sill where the moonlight will shine on it, the leprechauns will see it. If they like your box, they will take it and fill it with treasure for you and hide the box somewhere in your house. The night before St. Patrick’s Day we all decorated a small box as a family and set in in the windowsill for the leprechauns to see. On St. Patrick’s Day morning the girls woke up full of excitement to find that not only had the leprechauns hidden the treasure box but they had also done some little pranks around our house like turning our milk green and placing clovers over all the pictures of the girls hanging on the wall. It was fun to see how excited they were as they discovered the pranks and then finally the treasure box filled with gold and silver wrapped candy. We all ate green scrambled eggs for breakfast. It was a fun way to start out the morning. Paige was funny, she said, “Mom I think I know what the leprechaun’s favorite book is.....’Green Eggs & Ham!’” - We ended our St. Patrick’s Day festivities by having corned beef, mashed potatoes, and peas for dinner followed by Shamrock smoothies. It was a great St. Patrick’s Day. We are definitely going to celebrate it again next year.
