Papa & Khaki!
My mom and Dave recently decided to move from Alaska to the "Lower 48". We are so excited! They were able to come and spend a week with us during the girls' spring break vacation. They came into town with their 45 foot long trailer. The girls were so excited to see them. And they were just as excited to see their dog, Stretch.
We spent a few days in Newbury Park just hanging out and spending time together. Then, we headed out near Santa Barbara to the Los Padres National Forest where we camped for five days together.
The only sad thing about this was that Tobey and Avery did not get to join us. Avery had a terrible bronchitis type cold and was coughing all night long so we needed her to stay home and get some rest so her lungs could strengthen and get better. Tobey valiantly offered to stay home and take care of her so I could spend time with my parents. He is such a great guy. Although they did not camp with us the entire time, they did come out and spend a day with us which was SO nice!
We had such a great time camping. Our campground was small and quiet and located near a lot of little swimming holes. It was within driving distance of Santa Barbara and Solvang and was filled with wildlife - we saw deer, wild turkeys, prairie dogs, and pheasants.
One day we went and walked around Solvang, browsing through the shops. It was a lot of fun. After we window shopped, we stopped by a local ostrich farm. The older girls went in with Papa Dave while I stayed in the car with Hadley because I was having a major allergy attack from something in the air. Yuck! The girls got to feed the ostriches. Good times!
Another day we drove in to Santa Barbara. We went to the beach, walked out on the pier, rented a family bicycle and cycled through town. We learned that Kennedy is a VERY crazy driver! It was a fun way to spend another day together.
The rest of the camping trip we ate good food, played a lot of dice games, were entertained by Hadley's dancing and singing, hiked, waded in the swimming holes, and enjoyed being together. I will say we were really spoiled camping in their deluxo RV. I was grateful to have a comfy bed and an indoor bathroom. That made for a nice pleasant camping experience while being pregnant.
After we returned from camping mom and Dave stayed for a couple more days. Then they said their goodbyes and headed back up north. It was so much fun to have them here with us.
