Kennedy had a pretty laid back birthday. On their birthdays I let them pick out whatever they want for all three meals. Because her birthday was on a Sunday and we have early church, I let her pick out any box of cereal she wanted. This is a BIG treat since we only have cereal on Sundays and it's never a sugary kind. She picked out Fruity Pebbles (of course she would pick out the sugariest sugar cereal she could, hahaha!). She also got to open one present at breakfast - that has become a tradition with our girls. It was a cute set of earrings.
After church we had biscuits and gravy with sausage and bacon for lunch. She definitely takes after her dad. Then we went over to Grandma and Grandpa Regas' house to spend some time with family. For dinner we had chicken rolls and then Kennedy wanted to open her presents.
She got a lot of fun things from everyone, but the highlight of the day was her Fijit. She kept asking for a Fijit last year for Christmas, but because they are so expensive she did not get one. After Christmas one of my friends from Rexburg called me and told me she found a Fijit at Sam's Club for less than half the price they normally are. She bought it for me and I made sure to hold it for Kennedy until her birthday. Since she hadn't even asked for a Fijit for her birthday she was really shocked and surprised. It was a lot of fun to see her open it up.
After dinner we ate the "zebra striped" birthday cake had me make for her.
Then, on Monday I went and picked her up from school and took her out for her "birthday" lunch (one day late). She chose to go to McDonald's.
And to top it off, Tobey and I took Kennedy to Disneyland by herself for her birthday. She got to choose all the rides, restaurants, etc. for the day. We had a good time just hanging out with just her. It was good to have that one on one time. She is not our most adventurous child so we did not go on any of the "bigger" rollercoasters. We did go on some really fun rides like the new Radiator Springs Racers in Carsland, the Haunted House that was decorated like The Nightmare Before Christmas, Splash Mountain, and others. It was funny because whenever we'd see a character I would ask her if she wanted to take a picture with them and she kept giving me this look like, "I am SO too old to do that now mom!" She is growing up too fast. We really enjoyed this fun day with her.
We love Kennedy's personality. She is still a very fun-loving, silly girl. She is the one at the dinner table who tells us long, detailed stories about things that happened to her at school, complete with a lot of sentences sounding like this... "and she was like.....and then I was like....and we were all....." She recounts every detail of recess, PE, dance class, etc. to us. There is never a dull moment with KK around.
Over the summer she really started taking off in her reading. She LOVES to read now and is always reading to me and her sisters. She knows most of the words in the books we are reading and is quickly learning how to sound out larger words as well. This is a HUGE improvement from last year. I am super excited that she is starting to read so much.
She is a very nurturing person. She is quick to comfort and help her sisters when they need anything. She will read to them, tell them jokes, or play with them when they are sad. She is also our "safety monitor". She is always the one to let me know if anyone is stepping out of line. :)
She continues to amaze us with her bravery and maturity in handling her diabetes. She NEVER complains, she just takes everything in stride. This is such a HUGE example to me of positive attitudes through trials. She can do almost everything on her own now except change her pump sites and calculate her carbs. If we give her the numbers, she enters them into her pump like a champ. She is very responsible about making sure to let us know what she is eating every time. (Well almost every time). We are so proud of how she is tackling this challenge given to her.
Kennedy is such a beautiful little girl. I am so grateful she is in our family. I love you KK!
