St. Patty's Day

Last year we really started celebrating St. Patrick's Day, so the girls were excited about the prospect of the leprechauns coming, and Tobey was pretty excited about the corned beef. :)
We started out our celebration by having a Family Home Evening talking about St. Patrick and who he was, what he did, and why there is a holiday named after him. One of our favorite parts about St. Patrick was how he used the three leaves of the shamrock to teach the people of Ireland about the Godhead. We used that intro to reiterate to the girls the differences between God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost and to talk about though they are different entities, they are united in purpose. After our lesson we decorated our St. Patrick's day treasure box that we leave out for the leprechauns to fill and hide.
The leprechauns did in fact visit us again this year. They rearranged all of our throw pillows into smiley face formations, dyed our toilet water green, played with our green blocks, rode in our barbie cars, etc. The girls had fun seeing all the little tricks they played, and of course they LOVED finding the treasure the leprechauns left behind for them: golden chocolates, new crayons, and rainbow colored candies.

We had a lot of fun with St. Patrick's day food this year too. For breakfast we had Lucky Charms with green milk and green orange juice (which the leprechauns had dyed for us), for lunch we had green macaroni and cheese, and for dinner we had corned beef, green mashed potatoes, and peas. We love the traditions we in our family to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. They are really fun for all of us.
